Shaping up for classic finish

The Cayman Classic cycling series may have reached its midway point last Sunday, but the competition is still far from decided.

The third event of the series was a circuit race, with cyclists racing for 45 minutes plus three laps around a course that took them between the Island Heritage roundabout and the Lime Tree Bay roundabout. With two roundabout to negotiate of every lap, as well as the bridge over the Ritz canal, the route provided plenty of challenges for the cyclists.

Joe Cool Racing and NAPA are putting on a meet this weekend, 19-20 May, at Breakers Speedway. Event organizer Joe Myrie states prospective racers are encouraged to topple Billy Ebanks’ time of 5.567 seconds.

Roberts promises full support for Suarez

MINISTER of Sport, Anil Roberts, is confident that Carlos Suarez will be making Trinidad and Tobago proud in the 2012 London Olympics. He said Suarez will receive full backing from his ministry, adding all resources would be available for his quest.

Wallace calls for change

WILLIAM WALLACE, manager of the Trinidad and Tobago Under-23 football team, has called for a change in the culture of the sport locally, with particular emphasis on the grooming of national youth teams.

Wallace recently unveiled a proposal which he hopes will be taken up by the higher authorities in order to spark a revival in the fortunes of TT teams.
